10月9日下午17时许，停在香港国际机场的美国航空航班编号为AA192的飞机，在工作人员将行李搬上飞机时，运送行李车的起落架怀疑漏油起火，部份行李被火焚烧，一时间火光熊熊，冒出滚滚黑烟。

机场方面在接到消息后采取了消防措施，59岁的工人陈某在逃生时面部及脚部受伤，被救护车送院治疗。报道称，受伤工人负责机底工作，当时正站在货物舱上货，在跳下逃生时受伤。
根据机场航班资料，该航班与国泰CX7686及马航MH9472共享，原定于18时10分起飞前往美国洛杉矶。
据报道，香港机管局发言人表示，下午约17时30分，该局接到42号停机位地面发生火警的消息。事发时飞机上没有乘客，一名机场员工受伤，已送院治理。该航班已经取消，航空公司正为受到影响的乘客作出安排，香港机管局正对事件进行调查。
报道称，被引燃的货物并非乘客行李，而是物流公司的出口货物。货单显示为衣物，但好像混杂了锂电池，故不知起火原因是否与电池有关。
日前，香港民航处危险品事务处已发布提醒，要求严查带锂电池货物，尤其是未经申报的锂电池。原文如下：
Our HKG CAD just issued this：Dear Aircraft Operators, Cargo Terminal Operators and Ground Handling Agents, Please be informed that hidden dangerous goods (DG) especially lithium batteries may be contained in shipments described as "LED Light without battery", "AC adapter without battery", "Coils", "USB cable without battery", "Headset without battery" or "LED Headlight".
In order to prevent undeclared DG from being carried on board aircraft, cargo acceptance staff are reminded to exercise extra caution on cargo shipments described above or cargo with similar descriptions. The Dangerous Goods Office (DGO) strongly urges airlines, and handling agents to seek confirmation from shippers and conduct random checks on such shipments. In case undeclared lithium battery is found, the consignment must not be accepted and the occurrence shall be reported to DGO.
